Fundracing for the SF Marathon with Back on My Feet: Week 1
Hey friends! I am returning from blogging hiatus to shake things up a little and kick off some posts that are a little different from the usual race reporting.
Last year I completed my first marathon and "fundraced" for Back on My Feet San Francisco. You may have heard me talk about BoMF or post about it -- it is an incredible organization that has been such a large part of my life for the past year and a half living in San Francisco. For those of you unfamiliar with BoMF's work and mission, we aim to combat homelessness through education, financial aid and stable housing opportunities, and most importantly of all, the power of coming together for a morning run.
Because my experience fundracing and running the SF Marathon was so incredible, I decided to do it again this year -- but with an upgrade! On July 29th, 2018, I will be running the 26.2 miles again, this time alongside a BoMF member. Lord Frederick, a team SoMA member, artist, friend, and TOTALLY BLIND runner, will be tackling his first marathon in over 15 years. He is 51, strong, and determined to crush this race! Because he is such an impressive person, and always has words of wisdom to share, I will be "vlogging" -- (video-blogging, mom ;)) our next 3 months of training! This vlog will give you a look at how our training is progressing and more importantly it will show you how BoMF SF is changing lives.
I have a lofty fundraising goal this year --- double what I raised last year --- and to reach that number I'd love your help! Your donation to BoMF SF will directly impact the community and our members. Funds are used for a variety of methods that help individuals get "back on their feet". This could be anything from a pair of shoes to get a member started out running, or first month's rent and security deposit on an apartment. Back on My Feet helps remove barriers that have prevented our members from finding or keeping jobs or stable housing in the past -- for example, just this past week BoMF helped a member obtain a copy of his birth certificate -- a small barrier that was preventing him from being able to get a drivers license. Once he obtained his driver's license, he was recently able to get a job!
I'd love your support in donating, and you can do so here: https://give.backonmyfeet.org/SFMarathon2018/madikirch
Without further adieu, here is Week 1's training video!
